The Ed Amsterdam

Hotel is in a good location, just outside the hustle and bussle of the centre, yet everything is a 5 minute walk away. The rooms are spacious, comfy and bigger than they appear on the website. Check-in was a breeze as was self service, but unlike most self service receptions, someone was on hand to help and answer any questions. Although we didn't eat or drink in the hotel the bar area looked cosy and dinning room was sizeable. Would happily consider staying here again if we come back to the city!

Clean, well appointed and very reasonably priced.

Clean, well appointed and good location. Everything we needed and very comfortable. The shower was hot and powerful. The bed was comfortable and cosy. Plenty of tea and coffee. A fridge and hairdryer were supplied. Plenty of fluffy towels. We were quite happy for our room not to be cleaned every day - let’s save the planet!

A lovely stay.

A lovely hotel, all was as expected. Comfy pillows and bed ! Great to have vending machines etc. My only gripe is self check in..very easy and fast just think when you book these hotels and pay well you d like a more personal touch and a nice chirpy welcome. The Ed was lovely and I would go.back no problem it's just something I'm.not adjusting to.... yes add all details by email prior to your visit but still welcome people and ensure ye are there if any questions or query s or help....many thanks.

Staff entered unlocked my door and opened it whilst I was sleeping

I had a very very alarming and uncomfortable stay at your hotel. At 6am on my first morning, a member of your staff (supposedly) read the wrong room number and thought that my room had an early wake up call (I did not). I understand that mistakes happen, and if he had just phoned my room several times or knocked on the door to awaken me (when I did not request to be woken up), I would have inconvenienced/annoyed but as I say, I understand that mistakes like that can happen. However, this male member of staff knocked on my door only three times (which was just enough to wake me from my sleep, but not enough for me to grasp a second to understand what was going on) when he then unlocked and opened my door. I cannot explain how alarming that was. To have my door opened by a man whilst I was sleeping. I felt so unsafe, especially as a solo female traveller. You should NEVER unlock and open someone’s door, even if I HAD requested a wake up call (which I hadn’t) the norm is to ring the phone or knock on the door until you get an answer, NEVER to unlock and open the door. On top of that, I actually had the do not disturb sign on my door at the time - which should have alerted your staff to check he had the right room for the wake up call. I was also extremely disappointed with the reaction of the person on the desk I then went to speak to later that morning. He apologised for the inconvenience and offered me a free breakfast, totally underestimating the gravity of the situation. I was made to feel unsafe and scared.

Overall good stay with friendly staff

If you've read other reviews, a common callout would be the size of the room. Yes they are small, but we knew that when we booked. Since we weren't staying at the home all day, the space wasn't a huge concern. Getting an Uber to and from the hotel was fairly easy. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. Our first night there, we had a noise issue overnight which we addressed. Unfortunately, it wasn't taken care of because how can we expect the staff to fix something without hearing or seeing the problem. To make up for the issue, they comp our breakfast for the next day - which they didn't have to do, but the gesture was appreciated. Continental breakfast - no complaints there. Typical of any generic breakfast - eggs, yogurt, bread, croissants, coffee, juices, etc. We had zero issue with hearing outside or hallway sounds. The hotel was in walking distance of the main part of town - about 20-25 min walk depending on where you're going. Jumbo and Lidi were close for us to purchase snacks and water.
